#2004 Letterpress Broadside - June 23, with Sue Kaplan

$ 160.00

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!: Printing A Broadside A broadside is a sheet of paper printed only on one side. In the 18th - 19th centuries, they were used as newspapers to announce events, government decrees and other public and commercial topics. With the transition to modern printing techniques, the broadside now often includes poetry or short texts.

In our June Broadside class, participants will be able to print a six-line poem or text of their own choosing. We will discuss designing with metal type and also the finer points of typesetting, setting up type on the press, and obtaining good quality printing of your broadside. We will discuss choice of typeface and paper. Participants will take away several copies of their broadside.

You will also have the opportunity to add an illustration to your text either by choosing a block from our extensive collection of vintage blocks or taking one of the Block Printing classes offered June 15 or June 22.

No experience necessary just an interest and love of all things literary and tactile.

Instructor Sue A. Kaplan is the proprietor of Shulamis Press and also runs Garlow Studio. See more of her work at
