#5007 - Introduction to Marbling, March 5-6

$ 250.00

Marbling is the centuries-old art form of floating paint on water, creating designs using special tools, and then transferring the image to paper (or other materials!). Gorgeous, elegant marbled papers have been an integral part of the written word and bookbinding since the invention of paper.

In this two-day class, you’ll be immersed in the world of Ebru, the Turkish form of marbling. You’ll learn the nuts and bolts of the art form, dive into traditional pattern making, and have time for creative exploration. You will be taken through every step of the marbling process from preparation (making the bath, mixing the paint, aluming the paper) to learning beautiful patterns and designs to discussing common problems and solutions. By the end of the class, you will have created dozens of marbled pieces that can be used for artwork, bookbinding, and more and have a strong knowledge base to start marbling at home.

Instructor - Barb Skoog:

Barb Skoog is a marbler, writer, and artist with a studio in Southern California. Her own discovery of marbling as a fine art was pure luck and spontaneous ~ much like the art form itself. While on vacation with friends, she stumbled upon a special exhibition featuring over two dozen marbling artists from around the world. She was immediately captivated by the art form and ended up taking a class from the curator of that exhibit and a master marbler himself. That was six years ago. She’s been marbling every day since.

Barb’s work has been featured in art and lifestyle magazines, juried shows, and galleries. Her marbled pieces have been used in bookbinding, mixed media, fashion accessories (purses and scarves), home décor, and more. She loves to share the joys of marbling with others through marbling demonstrations and teaching classes. You can see more of her work on her site, www.BarbSkoog.com.
