BookArtsLA will be hosting our July Type Slam. Six lucky students will sign up to spend four hours working on the press creating fanciful broadsides with wood type. Facilitating this exciting evening will be artists Lorna Turner and Janet Kupchick. We will serving snacks and beverages as well as a healthy dose of typographic knowledge.

This is a fast-paced introduction to handset type and letterpress printing. Using BookArtsLA's collection of vintage wood type, each slammer will assemble a short text. Working alongside Turner and Kupchick you'll prepare the type, learn about inking and printing using several presses. In order to complete prints for all participants in one evening, we can't accommodate special projects during the Type Slam.
