#1015 - Coptic Binding, Part 2 - Boards, finishes and more, May 28 from 9 am to 1 pm

$ 130.00

Discover the versatile and beautiful sewing known as the Coptic stitch. One of the oldest known codex forms, the Coptic stitch allows the binder to make multi-section books with either hard or soft covers.

In this Workshop, we will focus on hard covers - attaching boards and reviewing a series of finishes and options for working with different cover materials. Traditional covers range from wood to covered boards to a wide variety of options. Participants will learn several versions of the Coptic Stitch during this class using 1,2 and 4 needles. This is an intermediate class. Basic binding skills are helpful. You need not have completed Coptic Binding, Part 1 which focused on paper covers.

Saturday, May 28 from 9 am to 1 pm

Fee: $130 plus a $30 materials fee paid to the instructor. All materials and tools will be provided

Instructor: Danita Rafalovich, the "needle whisperer" Danita brings excellent binding and sewing management skills. Be prepared to be awed in this class using up to 4 needles to make consistent, strong and beautiful bindings.

What are basic binding skills? Students should have some familiarity with sewing (threading needles, sewing signatures into a block), folding and preparation of book signatures, and also some experience marking and piercing sewing stations.
