#5012 Ecoprinting and Natural Dyeing for Book Artists, with Anne Covell - August 6-7

$ 250.00

Saturday and Sunday, August 6 & 7, 2016 from 9 am to 4 pm. There is a $50 materials fee, payable to BookArtsLA.

Come explore the world of natural dyeing at BookArtsLA! Over the course of two days, we'll experiment with processes of natural dyeing and ecoprinting on cloth, paper, tape, and thread. Working from locally sourced plants and environmentally sustainable materials, we'll focus our first day on proper methods for mordanting and dyeing, as well as how to shift colors and print from plants. We'll also set up an indigo vat and experiment with dip dyeing and shibori folding techniques.

The second day of the workshop will shift focus to how to use the materials we have dyed to create beautiful, unique books. We'll back our dyed cloth to turn it into bookcloth and make sample books for further reference and exploration. We'll end the workshop making two distinct bindings - one hardcover and one softcover - to highlight the subtle beauty of the dyed cloth and paper. Students will leave this workshop with two bound books, a booklet with dyed samples, and a stack of dyed paper and cloth to use in future bindings.
