#5029 Cartonnage Tea Caddy, Oct 14-15, with Betsy Begue

$ 250.00

This class is for all levels - beginning students will learn box making and more advanced students will have a multi-compartment box featuring a windowed lid to add to their repertoire.

Cartonnage is the traditional French art of constructing 3D objects from flat book board and covering them with decorative paper and trim.  Build a multi-compartmented box base from book board and framers tape.  Learn to bull the box for a clean finish, add cartonnettes for an elegant interior, and attach a hinged lid with a glass insert.  The Tea Caddy we will make is an advanced box structure, but as basic cartonnage techniques are taught and practiced throughout the class, it is open to anyone interested in adding to their repertoire of boxes.

Prerequisites:  Familiarity with basic book binding/cartonnage skills (gluing paper to book board, covering corners, etc.) will be useful, but the pace of the class will allow those new to box making to have a successful experience.

Materials supplied by students:  Cutting mat, craft knife (Xacto, Olfa, etc.), 18” metal ruler marked in cms, mechanical pencil, bone folder, scissors, 1.5-2” glue brush (cheap), and emery board.

Saturday and Sunday, October 14-15 from 9 am to 4 pm. There will also be a $35  materials fee.
