#5057, Japanese Bookbinding, with Anne Covell - March 23
Japanese Bookbinding: Multi-section, Ledger, and Stab
In this one-day class, students will learn three elegant and unique Japanese bindings: the Japanese multi-section, ledger, and stab binding. We will begin with the Japanese multi-section that combines single folios that are slit at the spine and laced so that the stitching is invisible on the exterior. This binding is sewn with paired stations using multiple needles to provide an elegant, seamless look. Next, we will learn the Japanese ledger binding that combines single folios with subtle tackets. Finally, we will learn several variations of the Japanese stab binding, first by sewing on cards, and then sewing on the book.
Emphasis in this class will be placed on refining techniques, choice of materials, and the aesthetics of Japanese bookmaking.
*This one day class can be taken as a stand alone or as part of the 4-day Japanese Book Arts Intensive.
Saturday, March 23 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Fee: $155 plus $25 materials fee
